Message From Director

In 2010 Hyogo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre celebrated the New Year for the very first time in our City Beach location.  The Centre reopened in August last year and I am delighted that we have been able to restart our original Japanese cultural activities as well the Japanese language course.  I am also pleased to note that the number of visitors to the Centre is steadily increasing.

Hyogo Cultural Centre has placed a strong focus on our resource library and we purchased approximately 600 new Japan related books last year.  This year I am committed to adding to the DVD library to make the Centre even more attractive.

We have also restarted the Chatterbox programme on Saturday afternoons and the number of participants has been gradually increasing.  It is a very casual exchange programme where you can speak in English or in Japanese, so please don’t hesitate to participate.

Finally, from this year The Japanese Weekend School is planning to move to City Beach.  For this reason the Centre now opens from Tuesday to Saturday each week and we are looking forward to welcoming many visitors.

Hina Matsuri Display now on at the Centre!

Come into Hyogo Cultural Centre before March 3rd to see our magnificent 12-tiered display of dolls for the Hina Matsuri. This exhibition has been set up to celebrate Japan's Girls' Day Festival when parents and relatives pray for the health, happiness, and fortune for all of the young girls in the family. Why not bring your daughters in and take a photo in front of this gorgeous display?

We have been busy shopping and there is already a host of new DVDs that have been placed in the library this month. Members can now enjoy films, such as Hula Girls, Ponyo, Rashomon, and the beautiful, An Autumn Afternoon, among others. Don't forget to renew your membership to take advantage of these great new resources!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Hyogo Cultural Centre will be closed on Saturday, February 27, 2010

Office hours are 9am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday (closed Mondays, Sundays, and all public holidays)
