Message From THE Director

Director

Happy New Year!

On behalf of the Centre staff, Melissa, Yumiko, and Clare, I extend to you all my warmest greetings for the New Year.

2011 was the 30th Anniversary of the Sister-State relationship and to celebrate many events and exchanges took place and resulted in an even stronger bond between the regions.  In 2012 we will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the opening of this Centre in Perth.  I was the inaugural Director of this Centre and was in charge of getting it up and running.  I am so delighted that the Centre has now become such a wonderful exchange hub for Japan thanks to the participation of so many Western Australian people.

This year, together with the Department of Education, we will continue with our efforts to support Japanese language education in schools.  To achieve this, we plan to focus on promoting the attractions of Hyogo Prefecture, producing an educational DVD resource about Hyogo, and further deepening the exchange opportunities between Hyogo Prefecture and Western Australia.  In addition, the resource library has been updated so I am looking forward to welcoming you all.
Furthermore, we would like to become a link between Hyogo’s technological industries and WA’s booming mining industry and introduce potential partners.

We welcome support or advice from you at any time.

A Happy New Year to you all!

Moving on from the excitement of the 30th Anniversary Year in 2011, we are pleased to announce that in 2012 Hyogo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre is celebrating our 20th Birthday. Hip, Hip, Hooray!! Hyogo Cultural Centre first opened its doors in 1992 as the very first tenant of QV.1 in St. George's Terrace, Perth. Our current Director, Mr. Akio Kawanabe, was responsible for overseeing the establishment of the Centre and is thrilled to see just how far we have come over the 20 years. Our move to the new premises in City Beach took place in 2009 and we feel that we have settled in here very well. We have many exciting events planned including the release of our very first Hyogo DVD, which will be an education resource designed to introduce the Centre, promote Hyogo Prefecture, and encourage learning of Japanese language and culture. The DVD will be presented by the amazing Shingo Usami, a professional actor and former Japanese language teacher, who has been working closely with us on a variety of projects. We also acknowledge the very generous contributions towards this project of both the Department of Education of WA and Association of Independent Schools WA.

A gentle reminder that it is a good time to renew your membership or consider joining so that you don't miss out on any information of the 2012 activities.

We look forward to welcoming you in the Centre soon.
