School Visits

Hyogo Cultural Centre invites WA student groups to visit us to learn more about Japan, particularly the special relationship between Western Australia and Hyogo Prefecture.

There is a Japanese traditional room set up with tatami mats and shoji screens in our Centre and you can also see many other display items. Some realia that may catch your eye includes beautiful Japanese wedding kimono, calligraphy, kites, dolls, kendo equipment, a tea ceremony setting and much, much more. Depending on the time of year, special seasonal and festival displays, such as the Dolls Festival and Children's Day Festival, can be admired while the students learn about Japanese life and culture. Hyogo Cultural Centre also has the largest resource library of Japan related materials in Perth, so maybe you could organise a research day out. Or your students can watch a Japanese video or DVD on a large screen!

Although bookings are essential, student groups are welcome to visit the Centre for a general viewing for FREE. We would also be more than happy to organise an enjoyable and educational Japan related activity for a small fee per student.

Should you wish to discuss your school excursion or make a booking, please contact us on 9385 9002 or email hyogo@iinet.net.au Please note that bookings are only available on Tuesdays through to Saturdays as the office is closed on Mondays and Sundays.

Copies of Hyogo Cultural Centre's Public Liability Certificate of Currency and Evacuation Procedures may be downloaded to assist your preparations in coordinating a school visit.

A Happy New Year to you all!

Moving on from the excitement of the 30th Anniversary Year in 2011, we are pleased to announce that in 2012 Hyogo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre is celebrating our 20th Birthday. Hip, Hip, Hooray!! Hyogo Cultural Centre first opened its doors in 1992 as the very first tenant of QV.1 in St. George's Terrace, Perth. Our current Director, Mr. Akio Kawanabe, was responsible for overseeing the establishment of the Centre and is thrilled to see just how far we have come over the 20 years. Our move to the new premises in City Beach took place in 2009 and we feel that we have settled in here very well. We have many exciting events planned including the release of our very first Hyogo DVD, which will be an education resource designed to introduce the Centre, promote Hyogo Prefecture, and encourage learning of Japanese language and culture. The DVD will be presented by the amazing Shingo Usami, a professional actor and former Japanese language teacher, who has been working closely with us on a variety of projects. We also acknowledge the very generous contributions towards this project of both the Department of Education of WA and Association of Independent Schools WA.

A gentle reminder that it is a good time to renew your membership or consider joining so that you don't miss out on any information of the 2012 activities.

We look forward to welcoming you in the Centre soon.
